Information about UL’s School Travel card (skolkort)

General

The School Travel card for the 2007/2008 academic year is valid on school days throughout the academic year. Many rules are the same for compulsory and upper secondary school students, but there are differences, which are explained here.

UL school services
To allow us to offer bus services for people other than students, most of our
school services are ordinary scheduled services. Many bus services run on
minor roads where it can sometimes be difficult to get through, especially in winter.
In severe conditions when the roads are slippery and the risk of accidents is too great, some journeys may be cancelled.

We at UL report such cases to the schools concerned and to Radio Uppland’s traffic newsroom, which gives information about the traffic situation every morning and afternoon.

For all School Travel cards:
The card entitles the holder to two journeys per school day.
If the card is used improperly, e.g. if any information is incorrect or altered, it is withdrawn.

Look after your School Travel card
Damp and magnetic objects damage the magnetic card (e.g. mobiles, CD-players, magnetic clasps on bags or wallets). Always keep it in the plastic wallet that came with the card. If the card is damaged due to carelessness, the school will charge for a replacement card.

If the card does not work or is damaged
If the School Travel card does not work in the card reader, the bus driver or inspector writes the date on your card. You then have three days to get a new card through the school. You can show the old card during those three days time, but after that it is no longer valid, and you have to pay the fare yourself.

If you leave school during the academic year

If you leave before the end of the academic year, you must hand your School Travel card back to the school no later than your last day at the school. Otherwise the school will make a charge.

Make the School Travel card your card

Because the school travel card is personal, it must show the holder's name and personal identity number and the name of the school. On the front of the card there are special fields where you fill in this information with a pen. NB The card is not valid for travel if any of this information is missing, altered or illegible. If you make a mistake, the card must be replaced by the person at school responsible for School Travel cards.

Card for one municipality or several municipalities

Your School Travel card is valid for the municipality where you live and go to school.
If your school is not in the same municipality that you live in, you need a special card, type 999, which is valid for 180 minutes from the start of the journey.

Stolen or lost cards
If you lose your School Travel card (compulsory or upper secondary school), you must immediately contact the person responsible for school travel at your school. You then receive a replacement card (there is a service charge) and your old card is blocked. If the old card turns up, hand it in at school. Confiscated cards are not returned. The student must buy a new card (SEK 300) at school.

Compulsory schools

Special rules for compulsory school students
The School Travel card for 2007/2008 is valid on school days throughout the academic year.

Here are some rules for compulsory school students with School Travel cards:

For a safe and pleasant journey

To avoid injuries, and so that the bus/train can keep to the timetable, we have a few simple rules to remember. They make things both safer and
more pleasant.
At the stop
• Arrive in good time.
• Wait until the bus has stopped.
• Do not jostle in the queue.
• Have your School Travel card ready before you get on.
On the bus
• Sit in a seat.
• Do not damage the bus’s fittings.
• Remain seated until the bus has stopped.
When you get off
• Do not push.
• If you have to cross the road, wait until the bus has left
so you are easier to see. Always wear something reflective when it is dark.
